An Introduction
to Leahey & Johnson, P.C.
Since its founding more than 50 years ago, Leahey and Johnson has evolved
into a performance-oriented, standard-setting specialist in civil litigation
throughout the greater New York metropolitan area. The firm has earned
Martindale Hubbell’s highest rating—“AV”—as
have its founding and
managing members, Peter James Johnson and Peter
J. Johnson, Jr.,
respectively.
The firm’s Chairman, Mr. Johnson, a nationally known trial lawyer recognized
by the New York Law Journal as “the standard setter”
of the New York City
defense bar, believes that the firm’s success is due in great measure
to the
careful selection and training of its new attorneys and to the firm’s
ability
to perform efficiently and economically.
It is Leahey & Johnson’s credo that our clients deserve the best
representa-
tion at a reasonable and prudent economic cost. We take great pride in being
able to render the best legal services efficiently and economically.
“We develop and seek out the brightest, toughest, most resourceful litigators
in New York,” Mr. Johnson reports. “Equally important, we believe
in attracting
a staff that is as varied as the city and state in which we practice. From
the
most experienced trial lawyer to our youngest associate, the firm is imbued
with a spirit of hard work and boundless creativity.
“Most of all, we emphasize the necessity of achieving success in all
our efforts.”
For Leahey & Johnson, the key to that success is constant preparation,
evaluation, and communication. Each weekend, the firm’s attorneys gather
in its conference rooms for symposia and lectures on such diverse topics as
trial practice and technique, jury selection, cross-examination, and use of
expert witnesses. In addition, prominent experts from fields such as medicine
(e.g., surgery, radiology), biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, economics,
and accounting frequently come in to deliver lectures and answer questions
from the staff. (For more on Leahey & Johnson’s commitment

The firm has attracted to its staff the best litigators available—as
dynamic
as they are diverse, culled from a competitive selection process. We firmly
believe in strong advocacy based on diligent preparation coupled with continuing
open communication with our clients and among our staff. Our roster of attorneys
is topped by our founding Member, Mr. Johnson, who sets the tone as well as
the standard for Leahey & Johnson.
Peter J. Johnson is one of those attorneys who has made an indelible impression
on just about everybody who has seen him in action. He is the standard
setter. For many attorneys there is no higher compliment than to call
another attorney `a Pete Johnson.’
So begins a New York Law Journal profile of the firm’s Chairman.
It describes
a standard that every other attorney at Leahey & Johnson seeks to meet
on a
daily basis. (For more on our attorneys, please see the biographies under
Members of the Firm.)
