




We are
pleased to highlight the public presentations of our principal Members
of the firm, Peter James Johnson and Peter James Johnson, Jr.:
Peter James Johnson, named one of The Best Lawyers in
America and awarded
Martindale Hubbell’s highest rating (“AV”), has been a frequent
lecturer on
trial advocacy and techniques at law schools and bar associations. He has
lectured at law schools ranging from Cornell to St. John’s University
School of
Law to the University of Indiana. He has also lectured for the New York State
Trial Lawyers Institute and many other national organizations, including the
Federation of Insurance Counsel, NACCA, and ATLA. Mr. Johnson has
provided lectures and seminars to major insurance companies on various
topics, including bad faith, claims handling, and defending high-exposure
complex lawsuits. He has lectured for the past decade to the New York County
District Attorney’s office, while also participating in trial demonstrations
and
serving as a mock trial judge and analyst.
He also authored a seminal study, after lengthy hearings were held, on the
New York City Criminal Justice System and helped author a similar study,
as a mayoral appointee, on New York City’s health care system.
Mr. Johnson has also repeatedly served as a judge and advisor to the
New York State Bar Association Mock Trial Program for law students.
As President of the Brooklyn/Manhattan Trial Lawyers Association, he has
spoken to many groups. His cross examinations and arguments have been
published in professional publications such as the New York State Bar
Association, Insurance, Negligence and Compensation
Law Section.
As the New York Law Journal wrote of Mr. Johnson: “There is
no higher
compliment than to call another attorney a ‘Pete Johnson.’”
Peter James Johnson, Jr., who is also “AV rated,”
appears regularly on the
Fox News Channel as a Fox News Legal Analyst commenting on a broad range
of civil and criminal legal issues. He moderates and lectures every month
as
Chairman of the Committee on Character & Fitness for the Appellate Division,
First Department (the largest department in the State of New York) in a “Bridge
the Gap/Orientation” program that he originated. He has lectured at
the
Practicing Law Institute on defense of personal injury actions; lectured to
the
New York County District Attorney’s office on summations; has provided
presentations and colloquia to various insurance companies, including
Royal, A.I.G., and Aetna; and has also provided presentations to insurance
trade groups such as NYACT, on topics that include the history and effect
of
HIPAA on property and casualty insurers and their attorneys. He has lectured
to the Court Attorneys of the First and Second Departments, Appellate
Divisions, on appellate issues.
Peter has published many scholarly articles, including articles in the New
York
State Bar Association Journal and Commercial Damages Reporter,
on various
topics, including handgun litigation, the rights of primary and excess insurers,
and discovery through the Internet. He has also written articles for such
professional publications as the New York Professional Responsibility
Report
on topics related to the Code of Professional Responsibility as it applies
to
attorneys in New York.
He was appointed Senior Research Fellow at the School of International and
Public Affairs, where he continues to lecture. He has also lectured at the
Columbia University School of Journalism on law/media issues.
