Ms. Filiberti has drafted numerous appellate briefs and motions at the federal and state court level focusing on complex matters including issues of premises liability, products liability, personal injury, labor law, insurance coverage, Title VII discrimination, First Amendment violations, wrongful death, and fraud. She has successfully argued appeals in the Appellate Courts of the First and Second Departments. She also leads the firm’s extensive motion practice in all courts and directs in-firm training and education.
Before joining Leahey & Johnson, Joanne worked for eight years as a Prequalification/Risk Manager for a New York based construction company and its affiliates determining insurance coverage and potential liability of the company; and ensuring contract and job-site compliance with NLRA, OSHA, NIOSH, NYS DOL and NYC DEP regulations.
Ms. Filiberti was named a Member of the firm in 2009.
Joanne is a graduate of New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature, with minor concentrations in Political Science and Italian, and Brooklyn Law School.
At Brooklyn Law School, Joanne participated in the Prosecutor’s Clinic in which she worked as a Student Assistant District Attorney under the supervision of Deputy District Attorney and was responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor offenses in the domestic violence and sex crimes unit of the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.
